Canada Announces Historic Immigration Quotes for the Next Three Years
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Departmental Plan 2017 – 2018 indicates that Canada will process a total of 310,000 immigrants. The number of immigrant intake is projected to be a historical high within the next two years. This is the highest intake of immigrants since 1913.
The 2018 target of 310,000 immigrants is a 19% increase compared between 2006-2015 numbers. In 2019-2020, the target number is even higher.
2020: 340,000 immigrants
This multi-year plan is the second of its kind in Canadian history, the first was in between 1982-1984. Canada’s intake of immigrants will increase from 0.80% of the population to 0.90% of the population by 2020. Immigrants account for 75% of Canada’s population growth.
