Canada’s Population Boom: 471,550 New Permanent Residents in 2023

In 2023, Canada set a new record by welcoming 471,550 new permanent residents, surpassing the previous year’s total and the target set in the Immigration Levels Plan for 2023. This achievement reflects Canada’s commitment to expanding its population through immigration, drawing significantly from Express Entry programs and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), along with their familiesCanada’s target for 2023 was 465,000, which was surpassed by 6,550.

Canada Temporary Workers & International Students 2023

In 2023, IRCC significantly increased the finalization of temporary residence applications. Work permit applications, including extensions, saw a notable rise to 1,646,300. This is an increase of 503,330 from the previous year. This includes both the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the International Mobility Program. Additionally, study permit finalizations also grew, reaching 1,089,600, including extensions, which surpassed the prior year’s figure. These figures highlight Canada’s expanding role as a destination for international workers and students.

In 2023, the period from April 1 to December 31 saw 293,000 individuals attain Canadian citizenship, marking an increase of 13,900 compared to the same timeframe in 2022, where 279,100 new citizens were welcomed. This growth in citizenship levels underscores Canada’s continued commitment to integrating newcomers into the fabric of the nation, reflecting its welcoming stance and the successful transition of many residents from temporary to permanent status, culminating in citizenship.
