Start Your Journey With The Express Entry System

The Express Entry system is the most popular and fastest pathway to immigrate to Canada. Prospective immigrants can start their journey by creating an Express Entry profile. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the agency administering the government’s immigration policy, will assess applicants in the pool and score them according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). At each draw, the IRCC determines the cut-off score and sends successful candidates an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Permanent Residence. Where there is more than one candidate with the cut-off score, the IRCC will give preference to those who applied first. In the Dec. 22 draw, the tie-breaking point was Nov. 24, 2021 at 16:56:42 UTC.

Applications of candidates who accept the ITA are reviewed by the IRCC. This process can take up to six months during regular service times and the IRCC may require additional documents from candidates. Approved candidates are then issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), which completes the journey of immigrating to Canada.

Year In Review

Based on October’s report by the IRCC, nearly half of this year’s Permanent Residents chose to settle in Ontario, making it the most popular destination among the provinces. The second and third places went to British Columbia and Quebec, opted for by 17 per cent and 12.6 per cent of immigrants, respectively. Nanavut had the least number of newcomers, receiving only 35 applicants.

Canada welcomed more than 401,000 Permanent Residents within 2021, marking the largest intake of newcomers since 1913. The government is targeting another 411,000 candidates for the coming year. This will include 110,500 candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class programs.

As the country that ranked No. 1 for Quality of Life in the U.S. News survey in 2021, Canada remains one of the top destinations for newcomers.
