With nearly 15 million residents, Ontario is Canada’s most populous Province. There are many reasons why Canadians choose to build their lives here. It is home to both the nation’s economic and political epicentres, Toronto and Ottawa. According to Statistics Canada, Ontario’s GDP accounts for about 38 per cent of the Canada’s whole GDP. As of May 2020, Ontarians earned a median salary of $24 per hour, which is well above the minimum wage of $15.
There has never been a better time to migrate to Canada than right now. The government of Canada plans to welcome more than 800,000 newcomers in the years 2022 and 2023 combined. The Canadian economy is banking on this fresh pool of talent and skills to recover the dents made by the COVID-19 pandemic. Conversely, immigrants benefit from Canada’s high quality of life and free society.
Canada is a top destination for education among international students. The US News report, a survey that measures global perception of 78 countries, ranked Canada at No. 4 for education in 2021. With institutions such as University of Toronto and McGill University consistently ranking high on QS Top Universities, the quality of Canadian education speaks for itself. The opportunity to permanently live in Canada is also a major reason why thousands of gifted scholars around the world choose Canada.
On Jan. 12, 2022, the government of Ontario issued 502 Notifications of Interest (NOI) through its Human Capital Priorities Stream.
Express Entry candidates with scores between 464 and 467 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) were eligible for the NOIs. This recent round targeted candidates with experience in the following National Occupations Codes (NOC):
The PNP is only one of the many programs open to foreign nationals who want to immigrate to Canada. Other than government policy, immigration trends also reflect international developments. According to the Express Entry Year-End Report of 2020, the IRCC started to focus on Canadian Experience Class after the COVID-19 pandemic began. In 2019, about half of all Invitations To Apply (ITA) were issued to candidates from the Federal Skilled Worker category. In 2020, that number dropped to 32 per cent. However, the government of Canada is projected to draw more than 25 per cent of 2022’s immigrants from the Federal High Skilled category. This includes popular immigration streams such as Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class.
The latest round of invitations for Permanent Residence had a cut-off score of 720. Obtaining a nomination through eligible PNP programs gives a candidate a 600-point boost in the Express Entry System. Candidates can apply for the PNP once they file an Express Entry application. Certain PNP streams are also open for candidates to apply directly.
A better overall score improves a candidate’s chances for immigration. That much is simple – yet, the misunderstood word here is overall. If you are confident in one or more of the abilities tested, you may be inclined to dwell more on that skill. By neglecting your weaknesses and overperforming in one category, the candidate may get a good average score. However, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) rewards each ability separately. This is why some candidates find themselves repeating exams and doubling preparation time, without improving their overall CRS score.
The fastest pathway to immigrate to Canada is the Express Entry system. For this reason, it is also the most competitive. As of Dec. 20, 2021, there were 191,765 candidates in the Express Entry pool. When there is a large supply of skilled applicants, the cut-off point of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) could rise higher. The good news is that, once in the pool, candidates qualify for Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Qualifying for these programs either boost a candidates’ CRS score by 600 points, or open them new pathways to immigrate to specific provinces.
